There are many clients who have who have associated complex communication needs due to a range of developmental or acquired conditions. Working with these clients requires an ability to understand the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, such as picture boards, speech generating devices and mainstream technology.
This session allows you to learn tips & techniques from a speech pathologist that you can utilise with your clients in the community.

“Accessing and Controlling the World Around You” –accessible technologies now more than ever before allow people with alternative access requirements to engage with the world around them.
The session will aim to explore:
Fundamentals of Environmental Control Units (ECU) and their mainstream counterparts;
Accessible telecommunication options
Alternative access controls (Incl. switches; head tracking and eyegaze)
The session will also aim to integrate information on the latest funding available to assist clients toaccess the technologies best suited to their needs.

You are invited to attend our focused clinical reasoning session on 'Transportation of people seated in wheelchairs'- Guidelines, Best Practice and Clinical Realities.
This focussed clinical reasoning session will examine the rules and standards behind the transportation of people seated in wheelchairs. Information on International Best Practice Guidelines and the Department of Transport and Main Roads standards will be provided, along with a guided discussion on the practical realities of enabling a client to travel in a vehicle whilst seated in a wheelchair.
The session is suited to health professionals with experience in vehicle modifications as well as those with an interest in the field.
A light breakfast will be provided during the session.
