Why is an assistive technology assessment important?

The right AT needs to fit the person using it and the way they live. An assessment considers your goals, routines and environment. Where a trial is appropriate, it can help show which features work for you before your clinician prescribes a solution.

What types of assistive technology can LifeTec help with?

We can help you explore options for daily living, mobility, seating, communication and access to technology. This may include augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), switches and environmental controls. The options considered depend on your needs and goals. What happens after an assessment or trial?

Your clinician will discuss the findings and next steps with you. Where appropriate, they will prescribe suitable AT and prepare a report. Depending on your service, they may also help you get started once the device is available.

Can a family member, support coordinator or clinician make a referral?

Yes. Family members, support coordinators and clinicians can make a referral. We will work with the person seeking support and those they would like involved in the process.

Can LifeTec help with an NDIS funding application for assistive technology?

Yes. LifeTec’s clinicians are experienced in preparing clear, detailed AT reports. A report can explain your needs, the options assessed or trialled, and why the prescribed AT is suitable. It can be used to support an NDIS funding application. The NDIA makes the funding decision.

Do I need NDIS funding to access this service?

No. LifeTec also supports people using other funding pathways and private funding. Contact our team if you are unsure which option applies to you.

Is the service available in Brisbane and Townsville?

LifeTec provides AT assessment services in Brisbane and Townsville. The types of assessment and trial support available may vary by location, so please contact us to discuss what you need.

What is an assistive technology assessment?

Assistive technology includes equipment, devices and technology that can make everyday activities easier or more accessible.

An AT assessment starts with your goals. A LifeTec clinician takes time to understand what you want to do, what is difficult now, and how you would use the device. They consider your needs, preferences and environment before exploring suitable options with you.
