Home Modifications Service

Our occupational therapists work with you to understand your goals, routines and the way you move through your home. We assess your environment, identify risks, and recommend modifications that improve safety, accessibility and independence.

Whether you’re an NDIS participant, an older adult, or supporting someone you care for, our goal is to help you create a home that supports the way you live.

What are Home Modifications?

Home modifications are custom changes made to your living environment to improve accessibility, safety and functionality. These adaptations support people with disability, mobility challenges, or those wanting to maintain independence as they age.

Unlike temporary assistive devices, home modifications are permanent or semi‑permanent solutions designed to meet your long‑term needs.

Your home modification options may vary depending on your funding scheme, including NDIS or CHSP.

We support NDIS participants with both Minor and Complex Home Modifications. Our occupational therapists complete functional assessments, collaborate with builders, and prepare NDIS‑ready reports to support your funding application.

If you’re an older adult, explore our Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) services.

Types of Home Modifications

  • Smaller changes that improve accessibility and safety without major structural work.

    Some examples include:

    • Grab rails - support in bathrooms, hallways and stairways

    • Threshold ramps - smoother access for wheelchairs and walkers

    • Hand-held showers - increased flexibility and ease of use

    • Handrails - added support for stairs and entryways

  • Major structural changes designed to improve accessibility and support long‑term independence.

    Some examples include:

    • Bathroom renovations - step‑free showers, height‑adjustable sinks, grab rails

    • Access ramps - custom‑built ramps for safer entry and exit

    • Lifts & Hoists - ceiling hoists, stair lifts and platform lifts

    • Widening doorways - easier movement for wheelchairs and mobility aids

    • Kitchen modifications - lowered benchtops, pull‑out shelves, accessible appliances
